COMBINED OBJECT DETECTION AND PARAMETERS ESTIMATION ALGORITHM FOR AERIAL NAVIGATION REFUELING VISION SYSTEM

In this paper the task of relative aircraft navigation during an aerial refueling using technical vision system is considered. Technical vision system is situated on the board of refueled aircraft and consists of two video cameras and video processing device. The goal of this work is creation of combined tanker detection and tracking algorithm. The detection and tracking are performed before the docking to the tanker. The algorithm is based on the combination of a number of algorithms. Switching between algorithms depends on the values of estimated tanker size and estimated distance to it. Experimental studies are carried out on the synthesized video. The results confirm that the developed complex algorithm can detect and estimate the parameters of the object in the signal to noise ratio of at least 5. Complex algorithm can be used in the development of on-board technical vision system for aerial refueling.
