A significant factor limiting the use of radio range finders with frequency modulation of emitted signal is interfering reflectors located in the path of probing signal propagation. The interference caused by interfering reflectors, depending on signal-to-noise ratio, can increase distance estimation error by one - two orders of magnitude. Peculiarities of noise compensation in spectral and time domains are considered. When compensating in spectral region, the analysis of using both amplitude and power spectra of difference frequency signal is carried out. It is shown that when compensating in time domain, in order to reduce the error, it is necessary to exclude the influence of mutual interference energy together with useful signal. It is shown that interference compensation is provided only when transmitter carrier frequency is tuned while maintaining its deviation. The results of simulation showing the possibility to reduce in 3-5 times distance measurement error when tuning transmitter carrier frequency are given.
