INFORMATION CONTROL SYSTEM TO WELD LONGITUDINAL SEAMS OF LARGE DIAMETER PIPES IN AUTOMATIC MODE

The task of providing the automatic operation of welding complex when welding outer seams of large diameter pipes is considered. The main task of automating the welding process is to install welding head precisely in the center of seam cutting. To do this, it is necessary to perform real-time tracking of the center of joint with cutting edges. The solution to the problem is provided by the operation of optoelectronic unit that scans pipe surface with the frequency of 100 Hz in its cross-section along the seam, as well as software and algorithmic complex that processes scanning results and issues control actions on welding head position relative to seam cutting center. The aim of the work is to create a system consisting of optoelectronic unit and software and algorithmic complex, which should provide automatic control of welding complex during arc welding or submerged welding of longitudinal seams of large-diameter pipes. The developed optoelec tronic unit together with software and algorithmic complex has been successfully tested in real production conditions at one of metallurgical plants in Russia. The algorithms and the software implementing them to control welding complex operation in automatic mode confirmed the characteristics stated.
