TWO-STAGE ALGORITHM FOR LOCALIZING BARCODES ON DIGITAL IMAGES

The problem of detecting a barcode in a digital image represented by a two-dimensional array of
brightness readings is considered. The aim of the work is to improve the quality of barcode localization in
images with complex high-frequency background structure by reducing the error in determining the predominant angular orientation of barcode lines in a two-stage processing scheme. The results of processing a set of 119 images showed that two-stage algorithm can improve localization quality by 3.65% if the average
value of Jaccard index is used as a criterion.
